Getting your car towed is an awful experience. If ever it happened to you, you have to deal with it properly. But how do we deal with it properly? Got any idea? If not, you don’t need to worry. This article will tackle four important things that you must do if ever your car got towed.
- Accept your mistake
Cars get towed when it are illegally parked. That is why the first thing that you need to do is accept that you parked illegally. Even if it is just a quick stop to wait for a friend or to run some errands, once you park on spots that do not permit parking, there are higher chances of your car getting towed. If this happens, do not ever try to bribe the MMDA or tow truck personnel. You might think that it will be the best escape plan but no. You’ll make the situation worse. Accept your mistake and deal with it professionally.
- Control your temper
When we say handle and deal with it professionally, that means you have to check and control your temper. Yes, it is a fact that getting your car towed is frustrating. But that doesn’t mean that you should let your emotion get the best of you. Control your temper, keep calm, and collect all the valuables you left in your car. Losing your call and shouting at the people who are just doing their job will not make the situation better.
- Pay the fine
Every traffic violation has a corresponding fine. Pay the fee to get your car back. There is no other way to get through it but to pay the necessary fees. The fine will vary depending on the place or area where your car is towed and the number of impounded days. So better
- Know your Rights
Remember that even if you violated a traffic rule, you still have rights as a motorist. If you think that your car is illegally towed, you can call the MMDA and let them know your concern. Keep in mind that they cannot demand money from you or threaten you with prison. If you think there are irregularities with the towing and your car was damaged, the towing company will be the one liable to shoulder the losses and damages incurred because your car’s insurance will not cover it.
You also need to know that it is part of your right to document the whole towing incident. These include the towing truck's plate number, towing personnel, and officers' name and unit or affiliation, and date and time of the towing incident. These pieces of information will be of great help you in case you have to file a complaint because of irregularities and/or illegal towing.
Being in this kind of situation is hard, stressful and frustrating. But the best part of it is being aware of the places and spots that have no parking and no waiting zones. It is best to be well-aware of the traffic rules to avoid getting in these kinds of situation again.
